The Salter School is proud to be part of this historic city
If you live in Fall River, you might take for granted some of the positive parts of our city. Sure, everyone has heard of Lizzie Borden, but there is more to Fall River than the legacy of an alleged axe murderess! Over the many years, the city has certainly gone through some difficult times, but check out some of the reasons why there is more to love.
The Fall River festivals
Fall River is famous for its festivals, celebrating the city’s Portuguese heritage. The Great Feast of the Holy Ghost of New England in August and the Feast of Santo Christo in May are major highlights of each year. It wouldn’t be Fall River without them!
The forest, parks, and rivers
Nature lovers should love this city! From the Borden Light Marina to Freetown State Forest to views of the Quequechan River, there are plenty of outdoor activities that make Fall River gorgeous. Fall River Heritage State Park and Battleship Cove are perfect for a daytrip to have a picnic or a long walk. Or you can get in shape by hiking at Copicut Woods. We’re lucky to have it all!
Not only are the country’s best Portuguese restaurants right here in Fall River, but we also have a whole range of ethnic cuisine to celebrate. Caravela, Estoril and Caldeira’s are just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many great restaurants to explore. If you are hungry, there’s no better place to be than Fall River. Plus, did you know that chef Emeril Lagasse was born here?
Fall River may be known best for Lizzie Borden and her alleged crime, but there is more to Fall River! The city was shaped by the Great Fire of 1928 and its efforts to rebuild. Our textile industry was once world-renowned, and Battleship Cove and Marine Museum are full of World War II history.
