Career-focused training can be an alternative to a four-year college
Calling all high school seniors in the Boston area! Have you decided what you are doing after graduation yet? You may be considering a two-year or four-year college, or maybe you are thinking that college isn’t for you. If you are looking for an alternative to college, you may want to consider career-focused training instead.
What is career-focused training? It is accelerated career training that teaches you just the career skills you need to get started in a new career field. Most programs can be completed in as little as one year or less.
With Boston’s impressive number of healthcare facilities and well-known hospitals, the Salter School is proud to offer three career-focused training programs in the health and wellness fields:
- Health Claims Specialist: Health claims specialists are also called medical billing and coding specialists. These professionals work in the billing offices of doctors’ practices and hospitals, where they are responsible for coding medical records accurately so that claims can be submitted to insurance companies. They need to be detail-oriented, organized, and analytical. If you think an office job in the field of healthcare would be a good fit for you, then you might consider this training program.
- Professional Medical Assistant: Medical assistants tend to work hands-on with patients. They are typically responsible for preparing exam rooms, checking patients in, measuring vital signs, and taking patient histories. They can work in doctors’ offices or hospitals. Our training program provides you with hands-on practice in the clinical skills you will need to know, like taking vitals, administering injections, and drawing blood samples.
- Massage Therapist: Massage therapy is a wellness discipline that has become more popular and mainstream over the last couple decades. Our Massage Therapy program trains you in the key massages that most spas and clinics provide, such as sports massage, Swedish Massage, hot stone massage, reflexology, Thai massage, and more.
Our Malden campus is just six miles north of Boston, right near the bus stop, making our location ideal for many young people in the Boston region. One of the great benefits of choosing the Salter School is our externship and internship program, where you are placed in real work settings before graduation. This gives you an opportunity to use your new career skills in a safe and supervised setting, allowing you to go out onto the job market with confidence in your skills.
If you think career-focused training might be a good option for you, take some time to research the reasons people choose career training. Many people find that it is more affordable than a four-year college and gets them into the workforce sooner.
