Take advantage of our region’s healthcare economy
Malden, MA: If you live in or near Boston, you know that our region is world-renowned for our medical facilities. The Boston Medical Center, Brigham & Women’s, and Children’s Hospital are just a few of the well-known facilities that people have come to know and trust. People travel from miles around to seek treatment in Boston.
If you are considering starting a new career, why not become part of this widely-respected industry? The Salter School, located just six miles north of Boston, offers several career training programs that can prepare you for a career in the field of health and wellness. The programs at our Malden campus are designed to take less than one year to complete.
Take a moment, and see if career training at Salter School might be a good option for you. We offer three programs for adult students in the Boston-Malden region:
Professional Medical Assistant
Medical assistants work in medical offices, hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities where they assist the medical team in caring for patients. Their role may include checking patients into exam rooms, measuring vital signs, administering injections, and updating electronic health records. In our program, you will learn about medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and all the clinical skills you need to work with patients in a healthcare setting. If you like the thought of helping patients on an everyday basis, you might enjoy this career field.
Health Claims Specialist
If you want to be part of a medical facility, but don’t necessarily feel comfortable working in a clinical setting with patients, you might want to consider becoming a medical billing and coding specialist (or health claims specialist). This is an office-based position in which you would process health insurance claims. The program focuses on learning the main coding systems such as the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT). Medical billing and coding specialists are important health information professionals who work behind the scenes to ensure that health systems are getting paid for the health services they provide.
Massage therapy is increasingly being seen as a positive complement to the field of medicine. Massage therapy can relieve pain, reduce stress, relax tense muscles, and provide an overall sense of wellness. Our program covers all the major massage modalities such as Swedish massage, hot stone massage, trigger point therapy, deep tissue, Shiatsu, and reflexology. Massage therapists can work in spas, resorts, and hotels as well as physical therapist clinics and chiropractor offices.
