medical billing and coding resumeHere’s a starting point for creating your resume

If you’re studying to be a medical billing and coding specialist, you’re probably busy with classes, exams, and externships and focused on finishing your program. But it’s also smart to start thinking about creating your resume now, even if you haven’t begun a formal job search. A resume is a good way to get the ball rolling, to see your strengths, and prepare for next steps.

If you've never had to create a resume, the process may seem a bit daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. We’ve provided a sample to get you started in the right direction. Remember that a resume is a written representation of your professionalism. You want to avoid typos, misspellings, and grammatical errors. Once you’ve completed a draft of your resume, have someone else review and proofread it for you. Your school's Career Services department is a great resource, with experience and training that can help you put your best professional foot forward. (Don’t forget: you'll also need to write a cover letter to send with your resume to potential employers.)

Once you prepare a standard resume and cover letter, you can customize them for each job you apply for. This will give you a head start once you do begin your job search. You may also want to create a LinkedIn profile to boost your online presence. Now, get writing—you can do this!
