Students and staff participate in giving activities to benefit others in need
Tewksbury, Mass. Lots of activities are happening at the Tewksbury campus this winter! Students are showing what it means to be part of their community, and have embraced the giving season.
Currently the Tewksbury campus is partnering with the Burlington Coat Factory to run a coat drive this winter. Both students and staff have donated new and gently used coats to those in need. Donations like this can make a great difference in the lives of individuals or families who are living on limited incomes or for people who are homeless.
The Tewksbury students are also thinking about those who are serving our country in the military. Earlier this fall, the student council organized a collection to provide care packages to servicemen and servicewomen stationed overseas during the holidays. The holidays can be a very difficult time to be away from home, and sometimes, something as simple as a care package can help to lift spirits. Packages were sent in November, and the service members should receive them in time for the holidays.
“Contributing to a coat drive, care package, or other community activity is a great way to give back during the holiday season, and to help those in need,” says Jennifer McLatchy, director of admissions at the Tewksbury campus. “We are proud of our students for participating in these activities, and for being so generous.”
The students and staff are also showing their generosity to one another. The student council has set up a “giving tree.” Students who are raising young children can write a gift wish on a tag, and hang the tag on the tree. Other students can choose a tag and buy the gift for the child. Students love to buy gifts for the young children, and this activity helps to bring students closer together.
At a school like the Salter School, where students are enrolled in career training programs in the helping professions, such as professional medical assistant training or massage therapist training, is it any wonder that the students love the giving season? The Salter School is proud of their generosity, and wishes a happy holidays to all its students and staff!
